The Roebuck

There's a lot to be said for good old traditional English pubs and the food they serve.

One example is the Roebuck Inn, just north of Wickham on the A32 in Hampshire.

I phoned Saturday afternoon to ask if I needed to make a reservation for that night. The fact I did (as they were nearly full) was a good sign in itself. (Successful pubs are not normally empty!)

We arrived early and the table was available even then - a really cosy window seat. The pub is your traditional type - olde worlde type - with loads of old books and other old country memorabilia around the walls. A bit tacky perhaps, but still really cosy and traditional.

I'm not going to go on and on about how great the food was. To me that's a personal thing for you to find out. Needless to say, my (undressed! - scary!) garlic king prawn starter and game pie main courses were superb. Ali had garlic mushrooms (a massive bowl of them!!) to start and a Seafood Bake for her main course. When Ali nods her head while going, "mmmmmm" you know it's tasty!! Have a look at their menu and decide for yourself.

So how much was this fantastic night out? A bottle of wine, a few drinks and three courses of good, wholesome food........£80?....... £60? Not even that!

Less than £50. We'll definitely be going back!!
