Garry Newlove

I never knew of Garry Newlove, a 47 year old sales manager from Warrington in Cheshire. And if I went through the rest of my life still not knowing of him, I would die happy. Because, you see, the reason I and the rest of the world now know of Garry Newlove is because he is dead. His head kicked in by 3 teenagers who had been damaging cars along his road one August night, last summer.

The facts of the case are clear. The three boys - and that's what they are. Not men, not pillars of society, but three little boys - had been drinking all day. One of them, ADAM SWELLINGS, had just been released on bail that same day!! Once on the ground, Garry was kicked so hard that he never regained consciousness. He died two days later.

His 12 year old daughter Amy wrote a letter to her Dad as he lay in a coma. Read it and try to comprehend how distraught and frightened she must have been.

When are we, as society, going to say "enough is enough" to this yob, alcohol fuelled culture and make it very clear to these pond life that they must take responsibilities for their actions. This may be a difficult concept for these lame brains to grasp, especially as they're obviously not getting help and guidance from their parents.

Now there's a point. Where were the parents when this heinous act was happening? More to the point where did they think their lovely little boys were? And I wonder how proud they were feeling of them as they were found guity of murder?
So who were these fine examples of UK youth? I want you to look at these three murderers (because that's what they are) and remember their names:

Left: Jordan Cunliffe - 16 yrs old
Centre: Stephen Sorton - 17 yrs old
Right: Adam Swellings - 19 yrs old

To forget their faces and to forget what it is they've done would be an insult to Garry and the family he has left behind.

Now, I'm a real fan of Radio 2's Jeremy Vine. Jeremy discusses topics of the day and on Thursday I heard something that stopped me in my tracks. It was Garry's widow Helen talking about the effect of Garry's death on the family. Jeremy played the whole of what Helen was saying and made no apologies for doing so. Here is what she said:

Speaking from the heart, it is obvious that the death of her soulmate has killed her too. Taken her reason for living away.

Now, one day, those three scrotes will be released from prison. Even if they're sentenced to "Life", we all know that that will probably mean 12 - 15 years. But what about Helen and her daughters? Their life sentence is just that. A life sentence. So why shouldn't "life mean life" for these three pond life?
