A court has given sole custody of Britney Spears' children to her ex-husband Kevin Federline and suspended the singer's visitation rights.
A hearing has been set for January 14 which will determine how the bitter custody battle is to proceed.
It comes after the troubled pop star was taken to hospital for psychological tests.
Police were called to her home following a row over custody of her children and Spears was taken out on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance after a tense three-hour stand-off.
She had to be restrained on her way to hospital.
Police officer Jason Lee said Spears had been under the influence of an "unknown substance".
Six police cars, two ambulances and a fire engine were called to her home as the row escalated.
Police became involved when Spears failed to hand back her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline after a visit.
The pair have been fighting over custody of their young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Federline had previously been awarded temporary custody of the children because Spears, who had limited visitation rights, had defied court orders.
Police officers were initially called to her Los Angeles property on Friday, with the back-up emergency vehicles summoned two and a half hours later.
Authorities said the first call involved a "family custodial dispute that we are trying to resolve... peacefully by court order".
The singer had been at court for a hearing earlier in the day but missed an appearance the day before saying she was sick.
Lawyers for Spears have filed a court motion begging to be relieved from their contract with the star, saying she was impossible to represent.
Spears and Federline were married in October 2004 and divorced in July 2007.
